Is it just me or does certain music just belong in one season? For me, John Mellencamp is late summer/early fall music. Beach Boys definitely belong to summer. After all, who wants to hear about surfin’ when it’s snowin’?
I would have to place Sweet Home Alabama in the summer category. Although it is played throughout the year, it’s about getting rowdy, having a good time. It’s been out a long time and so many memories associated with the song probably involves bodies of water, copious amounts of beer, and the opposite sex.
I, personally, hate remakes of the song. So, when I heard Kid Rock sample the tune in his song All Summer Long I rolled my eyes. However, the song has grown on me. Really grown on me. Apparently I am not the only one as Jim Malec of The 9513 Country blog seems to like the song also. Go YouTube the song. Warning: if you listen to it twice you just may end up liking the song!
